what do you see?

Usually, I would not try not to post my own ideas or thoughts about the concepts, but someone recently told me that this photo looked like it was simply a snapshot - that there was no thought behind it.

Maybe I'm just a defensive person, but I think that this comment struck me hard since this is one of the most personal conceptual photos I've created recently.

Bearing in mind that this is my own opinion of the photo - my own thought process - and that I meant to leave it up for other interpretation, here was my reply to that comment:

I was trying to show how when other people look at us or even when we look at ourselves in the mirror, we objectify ourselves; beauty is a social construct - many women try to make themselves pretty based on what others say or how others dress. Even when I try to be my own person, those ideals and preconceived notions seep through.

We revere Audrey Hepburn as a fashion icon because she was fresh and original, but then we go and try to copy her style. Isn't that a bit ironic? People say that it was her inner beauty that made her so very special, which is certainly true, but most people just mimic the outside appearance.

I guess maybe I read a little too much into my own concepts, so if this didn't come across clearly, it's my own fault, but I thought since you were kind enough to leave me a message, I'd leave one in return.
